Fighting Fascism

The Nazis didn't need a majority to take control of Germany. They didn't win a majority of the votes in any election. They won through fear and complacency. They roamed the streets, and the people did nothing. They vandalized Jewish businesses, and the police did nothing.

Fascism isn't like other political ideas. It's based on the threat of violence as a core tenant. Once they have enough followers to implement mass intimidation, it's over. That's why Fascism must be opposed at all times, on every level.

Speech must be met with speech.
Action must be met with action.
Protest must be met with protest.
Violence must be met with violence.

If you disagree with me about the violence part, let me explain why. The police are not omniscient. Fascists have no qualms about using violence to achieve their goals. As long as they have a monopoly on violence, regular citizens have to rely on police presence to stop this. If the fascists are able to establish a hegemony of fear in places they operate, they have effective co-control with local police, not even taking into account the possibility of sympathizers within the police force. If fascists are met with violence whenever and wherever they use violence (hello, Antifa), then they have no way to instill fear.

I also endorse naming and shaming. If we keep them at the fringes of society, then they can't corrupt our institutions or normalize their ideas. They should lose their jobs and their not-crazy friends for their abhorrent beliefs.
